My name is Yong Sul Kim and I hope there can be a change in the internship crisis that we are currently experiencing.
I am currently a third year medical student studying at UNSW. I came to Australia with my family at the age of six, and therefore have lived in Australia for more than 15 years. I cannot imagine living anywhere else; I consider myself completely Australian and I love this country with all my heart. This is why I feel incredibly anxious and disheartened at the thought of not receiving an internship after graduation. Going back to South Korea is not an option as I have lost my Korean vocabulary and their culture.
My family and I belong here and I am completely committed in working here. I want to become a doctor to THIS country, a country with a culture that I have deeply integrated into. International students are frustrated that we are not given an equal opportunity to do this. I hope the government takes all of our concerns and frustrations into consideration in order to make a fair and just change towards this internship crisis.
Yong Sul is a 3rd year medical student from the University of New South Wales
#HelpMeHelpYou is a collection of stories from current NSW students who are genuinely interested in working in NSW after graduation & are worried that they may not be able to make good use of their hard-earned medical degree. Read all students' stories here.
